Illicit Drug & Alcohol Treatment Counselling Service What is it? The illicit drug & alcohol treatment counselling service is a free service funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aging under the National Illicit Drug Strategy which aims to provide individual counselling, support and referrals concerning drug & alcohol treatment to the general Vietnamese community. Who can use the service? Any person in the Vietnamese community can utilise this free and confidential service. You may be • Female and/or male • Directly affected by illicit drug use/abuse/dependence • A family member, significant other or friend of the drug user • Seeking information and resources concerning illicit drug use How does the service work? The illicit drug treatment counselling service utilises a face-to-face, individual case management approach to counselling which is consistent with the philosophy of harm minimisation. All information/details obtained during counselling is kept strictly confidential and in accordance with the state and federal privacy legislation. The service works within a counselling, consultancy and continuing care framework, and incorporates a holistic approach to healthcare developing an individual treatment plan with each client consisting of both short and long term goals, integrated referral process to other services and programs as needed and continued support, advocacy and exploration of different treatment options available in Australia. When is the service available and where can I access it? The illicit drug treatment counselling service is available Monday through to Friday during the business hours of 9:00am to 5:00pm. The service operates across AVWA’s two offices located on: Level 1, 144-148 Nicholson Street, Footscray, 3011 and at 30-32 Lennox Street, North Richmond, 3121. For optimal service and to reduce waiting time, we suggest anyone who requires treatment make a prior appointment with any one of our counselling staff members.
