An outstanding exhibition not to be missed “ Mahatma Gandhi: An immigrant”

Mahatma Gandhi, one of the giants of 20th century world history, initiated the Satyagraha movement leading eventually to the independence of India from British colonisation. He advocated passive and peaceful resistance. He lived and practiced truth and peace.

The exhibition is a collaboration between the Immigration Museum and the Mahatma Gandhi Digital Museum in Hyderabad (India). Visitors have the opportunity not only to look at a great range of photographs and texts but also to interact digitally with a great number of exhibits and objects covering the period Gandhi went to England and migrated to South Africa as well as earlier periods of Indian history. There are rare and beautiful clay figures from the 1800’s, original newspapers and magazines from the 1930’s and 1940’s, weapons dating from the Indian Mutiny, archival footage, film clips and voice recordings of Gandhi’s speeches etc…

Rohini Kappadath, General Manager, Immigration Museum and Birad Rajaram Yajnik, Curator, Mahatma Gandhi Digital Museum are to be commended for an outstanding worldclass exhibition.
