Professor Thu Xuan Nguyen is a pioneering academic who played a vital role in advancing Vietnamese education and cultural exchange in Australia. Arriving in Melbourne in 1982, he joined the Phillip Institute of Technology, later helping to develop comprehensive Vietnamese language and culture programs following its merger with RMIT University. He co-authored key textbooks and successfully advocated for the inclusion of Vietnamese as a Year 11 and 12 examination subject. As founder and editor of Australia’s first English language Vietnamese studies journals, he fostered academic dialogue. His enduring legacy includes contributing to the establishment of RMIT University Vietnam, strengthening Australian-Vietnamese educational ties.
