International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD)

International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD)

IDPwD is observed globally on 3 December each year and is dedicated to celebrating the contributions and achievements of people with disabilities, as well as promoting their rights and wellbeing.

Maribyrnong Council celebrates International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) 2024 with a photography exhibition to promote inclusivity and raise awareness of the experiences and achievements of individuals with disabilities. The exhibition, titled ‘Being an Ally’, features members of Council’s Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) is at the Yarraville Seniors Centre.

I felt truly privileged to attend the launch of the exhibition today and to engage with members of the DAC. Their quotes, conversations, and discussions were profoundly moving and inspiring. They reminded me of the importance of allyship and the role we all can play in supporting and empowering people living with disabilities.
