WRITING COMPETITION: Refugee Week: Sunday 16 to Saturday 22 June 2024: Finding Freedom: Family
AVWA started in 1983 to provide assistance to the waves of refugees coming from Vietnam.
Today, we provide care and services to a diverse mix of Vietnamese in our community, and our employees are made up of a wonderful diverse mix of refugees to new arrivals, and everything in between!
Refugees are a proud part of our heritage, and this year, we would like to celebrate Refugee Week, from 16 - 22 June 2024 with a WRITING COMPETITION.
The theme this year is: Finding Freedom: Family. I invite you to write about this theme, and what it means to you. It does not need to be a personal experience necessarily, but it does need to be original, 500 words or less, either in Vietnamese or English. Extra points if you have a photo!
Winners will receive a $500 bonus / gift card, and there will be bonuses/ gift cards for second place, in the three categories:
- AVWA employees / volunteers
- Public entry, promoted on social media (18 years and over)
- Under 18 years category, promoted on social media

All entrants must agree that their content and photo may be included in our 2025 Magazine commemorating the 50 years of Vietnamese refugees in Australia.
Winners will be announced on Friday 21 June.
