IDAHOBIT Day Celebration 2023

IDAHOBIT Day Celebration 2023

AVWA was honoured to be invited by City of Yarra and City of Brimbank to join their celebrations of IDAHOBIT (International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Transphobia and Intersex Discrimination) on Wednesday, May 17th.

31 years ago, the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases, marking an important milestone in the fight against discrimination. Today, we observe IDAHOBIT, raising awareness of the ongoing work needed to combat discrimination against the LGBTIQA+ community. Both Yarra City Council and Brimbank City Council strongly support this day and stand alongside the LGBTIQA+ community.

AVWA CEO and staff proudly joined the crowds to mark this important day with community flag raising events at City of Yarra townhall in the early morning, then at the Civic Centre in Sunshine during noon time. It is an opportunity for AVWA to show our support and commitment to fostering a more inclusive and accepting society. Let's revisit the two events through some photographs.
