AVWA Establishes Permanent Community Hub in Thomastown New Office to Expand Services for Growing Vietnamese Population in Victoria’s Northern Suburbs
The Australian Vietnamese Women's Association (AVWA) has announced the acquisition of a new office building at 7 Wall Street in Thomastown, Victoria. This significant investment will enable AVWA to establish a permanent community hub and expand its range of essential services to the rapidly growing Vietnamese population in Melbourne's northern suburbs.
Melbourne's northern suburbs have experienced a steady influx of Vietnamese residents for over a decade. AVWA's vision is to deliver accessible services tailored to community needs.
After an extensive search, AVWA acquired the two-story office property, with a settlement scheduled for 1 July 2024. Renovations are planned to attain Class 9B certification, enabling the space to host community gatherings, training programs, and direct service delivery.
"After considering leasing options, we are very pleased to have purchased this ideal location," said Nicky Chung, CEO. "With our dedicated commitment to serving the Vietnamese community, this premise will enable the Association to establish a long-lasting connection with residents."
A top initial priority is meeting the increasing demand for aged care and disability support workers in Melbourne's north. AVWA will train and develop a local workforce to provide accessible, linguistically, and culturally appropriate care for the region's Vietnamese community.
"In addition to aged and disability services, we envision this new location becoming a vibrant hub for all," Ms. Chung added. "We welcome input from local Vietnamese residents as we tailor our program offerings to suit."
AVWA will regularly update its website and social media platforms on the establishment of the Thomastown office, new service rollouts, and community events. As planning progresses, the public can also contact Huy Luu (Operations Manager), Dung Huynh (Office Manager), or CEO Nicky Chung with any comments or questions.
The new office in Thomastown will be AVWA’s fourth office, in addition to the offices currently operating in Richmond, Springvale, and Braybrook. AVWA solidifies its longstanding mission to enrich, empower, and elevate the lives of Vietnamese Australians through comprehensive, culturally tailored community services.
