Honouring Martin Ha, for his outstanding contribution to the Vietnamese Australian community

Today we celebrate the incredible commitment and achievements of Martin Ha, community lawyer and Manager, Policy, Impact & Enterprise with commUnity+ Services.

The Vietnamese Australian community in the West faces significant barriers to accessing legal services, including limited English language skills, lack of knowledge of rights and systems, lack of confidence to exercise legal rights, and, in some cases, mistrust of government agencies and institutions.

The Vietnamese Lawyer Project (VLP) plays a crucial role in overcoming these barriers.

Since 2016, Martin has led the VLP supporting hundreds, if not thousands of clients with free legal assistance in language, and in a culturally appropriate way. Even as his employer was recognising his broader range of skills, Martin has been committed to being on the ground to give first line support to the people who need it most.

Martin has helped to improve access to justice in an array of areas including family law and family violence.

Martin is relocating to NSW to be closer to family, and whilst it is our loss, it is Sydney's gain to have an accomplished lawyer providing community members with a wonderful professional, yet heartfelt service.

AVWA extends our deepest gratitude for his invaluable contributions and wish him continued success in his future endeavours.

commUnity+ has confirmed that the service provision for the VLP will continue uninterrupted, ensuring that the Vietnamese Australian community in Melbourne’s western suburbs receives meaningful legal assistance. The two organisations are committed to strengthening their relationship further, enhancing their reach to broader areas and cohorts.
